Progress on House & Other Things

Housebuilding and selling is just way too stressful for our lifestyle! Anyways, we had a very rough last two weeks dealing with selling the house and the new construction. After 16 groups viewing our current house in one month we got an offer and accepted! Now it has to go through the closing process (inspections, appraisals, etc). Luckily, the buyers are going to let us stay in the house through August 31!

We had some hangups on the new house, but happily we are back on track. The house was supposed to be oriented due south, but for some reason is was not, so we had to do some last minute design changes to get the house oriented closer to due south. We changed around some windows and added a few more, and then we changed the orientation of our cantilevered bumpout to be oriented more toward the house. So, the house can definitely now be called "modern" due to this interesting angled bumpout on the 2nd and 3rd floors. They finished the first floor framing today, which consists of a 2-car garage, entry room, and utility closet. Tomorrow and the next day they will put the PEX tubing in for the radiant floor heat, and then pour a 2.5" concrete slab because we are going to have acid-stained concrete floors (which we will do it ourselves...). After the concrete cures for a few days, they can continue with the 2nd and 3rd floors.

Last weekend we had to get out of town, so we took a road trip with our camper down the Elliot Highway to Manley Hot Springs. Went to sit in the hotsprings tubs located in a greenhouse, and were surrounded by a wonderful tropical garden of flowers and grapes! It really was something else! I'll add some photos as soon as I can remember to download them.
