Just Married!

What a great weekend we had for our wedding! The weather looked rainy on Friday when we were leaving, but turned out to be fantastic despite a strong headwind while paddling. Julie, Bob, Jessie, Jeff, Heather, and Luke and Emily took off Friday evening and headed south for the Tangle Lakes, the put in for the upper Delta River in the Alaska Range mountains. We arrived late and camped out at the lake and started paddling the next morning.

Later in the afternoon we stopped at a scenic spot to have the wedding ceremony. Jeff lead the ceremony as the marriage commissioner with a poem called the 'art of a good marriage'. Then we said our vows we wrote to each other and exchanged rings. We both got a little emotional, more than we expected, but were calm and relaxed and happy to be in the sunshine and beautiful surroundings. Bob and Heather took photos for us and Julie and Jessie were official witnesses.

After the ceremony we continued paddling for about an hour and stopped at a beautiful campsite on in the mountains with abundant blueberries and great views all around! The gals (and Bob) picked gallons of blueberries while Jeff and Luke fished. Luke caught a beautiful and very tasty lake trout (char) that we ate for our wedding dinner. The wedding dinner was awesome, with everyone participating, thai green curry, couscous, asian salad, trout, fresh king crab (courtesy of Bob from Nome, AK), and monster good cookies. The next morning we paddled out into the Delta River against a very strong headwind the entire time. At least we had no rain, and we burned off all the calories we had in the wedding dinner the night before. We hope you can join us in our wedding reception celebration the evening of September 8 at the Dog Musher's Hall on Farmer's Loop Road. Here are some photos of the ceremony and the trip.

Wow! How beautiful! And I thought my two weddings were unique (back in the 70's) but yours is definitely unique. Your photos of the wedding and the trip are all great. We really get a feel for your experience marrying in wilderness, the beauty, friendships. See you all soon!
