Bangkok

Can you guess what this restaurant serves (note the reflection)?

Our view from the hotel

We've been enjoying Bangkok, especially the streetfood. Yesterday we checked into the posh Millenium Hilton Hotel (with Hilton points of course), with awesome views of Chao Praya river and the city. We take the boat ferry right from the hotel to the shopping districts. The only downside of staying at the Hilton is that it takes forever to leave the compound to get to the "non-hotel" Thai restaurants and street food and they charge you $5 for a bottle of water and $25 per hour for internet use (give me a break!). We didn't visit the Royal Palace, because we don't have enough time, but we were there last time we were in Bangkok, 5 years ago. However, we did get to see the King speed by in his car, the road was shut down and all these police cars cruised by escorting his car, with a crowd of bystanders along the road. Some guy told us it was "the king, the king!".

Last night we hit the super mega shopping district of Siam Square, were all the hip (and wealthier) Bangkok people do their shopping.

Today we'll hit the weekend market, one of the bigger markets in the world to stock up on souveniers.

Like mentioned earlier, we have been having some of the best streetfood EVER here. We got a delicious breakfast this morning of fried chicken (that beats KFC for sure), sticky rice with banana, sticky rice with a flan like cake, home-made mini donuts, iced coffee, and fresh orange juice, all for about $3-4. So far, in the past 2 days we've had fried chicken 3 times, I am sure we'll get it again later tonight....

We head to the airport tomorrow morning, I'll try to post some photos of Bangkok when we get back. Our flight should be short, only 3:45 hours to Taipei and then only 7:45 hours to Anchorage, but we have a 3 hour layover in Anchorage till we get to Fairbanks.

Wow, nice shots, and did you lie on those white recliners in the water? The food looks yummy. Great economical place to be a tourist and eat fantastic food. I want to go!
