For the past few days we have been taking it easy. Going for walks on the beach, hitting the markets, and taking bike rides. Yesterday we were walking along the beach and a fisherman brought in this dorado. They are really pretty with shimmering blue, yellow, and green.Today we had our first Spanish tutoring class in La Penita. It is one hour per day and today la maestra read us a story and asked us questions about the story.
After the class, we went over to
the Thursday Market (the Tianguis). We finally remembered to bring along the camera. One interesting thing we saw was a Huichol man with a little girl. He held up a sign indicating he was selling peyote, 100% natural. At the market we ended up buying croissants and a CD of music by Jose Jimenez, the famous Mexican musician for $2. On the way back we stopped by Hala's Hammock Shop and negotiated a deal to make hammock ganchas (hangars) in exchange for a discounted hammock. Our first job in Mexico!
Later this afternoon, Luke hung up another hammock, the chair type, so we can have more seating area for watching movies. Afterwards, we went to the beach and Luke did some boogie boarding. Tomorrow is a fundraiser, a silent auction for the poor people of Nayarit. It is a potluck, so we are going to bring a few loaves of no-knead bread.Photos of goods they sell at the Tianguis:
