Selling photocards at Tianguis

Yesterday we met Jeannie at the Tianguis (weekly market) to sell Mom's photocards and matted photos. We arrived early in order to get a good spot, and Jeannie found us a spot right across from the Oaxaca rug sellers, which bring in good business. Many people we knew from the area, and many other tourists stopped by to check out her cards. She did pretty good, selling about 40 items total, in about 4 hours, more than she usually sells in several weeks. There was one other gringa lady there selling photos and she said there have been problems in the past with some people not wanting the gringos setting up booths at Tianguis, but luckily we had no trouble. We had to pay 30 pesos (about $3) to set up the stand to whoever runs the Tianguis (local city?), a person comes around to collect the money. Anyways, it was a hit, so Mom is debating returning during Semana Santa, when the area will be packed with Mexican tourists.

Last night I had a visit to la dentista for a teeth cleaning. I was a bit leary about going to the dentist in Mexico, but it was very clean and had some interesting modern equipment that my local dentist doesn't even have. For example, for cleaning he uses a laser type tool, instead of using the manual pick. He also has a camera and flat screen monitor to show you all the cavities, which he blows up really large on the screen. Yuck! One thing that was different is that he doesn't have the vacuum tool and watering tool, so every so often he has you spit in a bowl and rinse with a cup of water. Unfortunately, it turns out I have cavities that need to be filled. So I will end up going back later next week to get them filled at about $30 USD per cavity.
