Valladolid, Yucatan

After leaving the coast at Celestun, we decided to work our way back over toward Cancun to prepare for our departure on Monday March 12. We took a stop over in Vallodolid to break up the long busride. We had been in Vallodolid a few years ago, which we used as a base for visiting Merida and Chichen Itza. Vallodolid is a sweet colonial town, with a large population of Mayan people, and most of the women still wear the traditional huipil dress. We didn't do too much there this time, but got our laundry done, ate a really good chile relleno meal at the food market, watched a bunch of American TV in our hotel room at Hotel San Clemente, and then had a romantic breakfast at Emily's favorite restaurant El Mesòn del Marquès on the plaza (see photo).

This morning we caught the bus back to Puerto Morelos, our favorite beach town on the 'Riviera Maya', the only one near Cancun that isn't completely gringo (but it is getting close). This afternoon we went snorkeling on the beach and tomorrow we will spend our last day in paradise together on the beach. On Monday, Luke flies back to Wisconsin to visit his family and friends. Emily will fly back to Puerto Vallarta for another 3 weeks at her folks house in good old Rincon de Guayabitos before flying to the lower 48 to visit friends and family. We will be meeting up again in Colorado in late April to meet friends for a fishing trip. We plan on arriving back in Alaska in early May and are not looking forward to getting jobs! So if you know of any jobs, shoot us an email. Despite having to get jobs, we are excited to return back to the USA, where the prices are fixed and the water is clean (generally)! Emily will still post entries from Mexico until she leaves, she will be helping her parents guard the house during the week of Semana Santa, when Guayabitos explodes with vacationers.
