Trip to PV and VWs invade Guayabitos plaza this weekend

Yesterday I went with my Dad to Puerto Vallarta for the day. As soon as we hit Puerto Vallarta it was one big traffic jam, so we decided to quickly get our errands done and then head to lunch. We ended up running to Sam's Club for "gringo health food" and Mailboxes, Etc. to pick up mail, then get the car washed from this guy who sets up a car wash stand at Office Depot. Then we headed out to Nuevo Vallarta, the gringo mega-resort area north of Puerto Vallarta, to get sushi, tempura, and gelato for dessert. There was even a Mayan Palace there (like the one we stayed at on the Riviera Maya) and it brought back memories.

Today we decided to go on a bike ride and began riding through the busy streets of Guayabitos. The town is packed due to the 3 day weekend, but even more packed due to a Volkswagon car convention on the town square! We didn't realize it was happening until we pulled up and noticed a big commotion with music blasting and tricked out VWs. Many of the people who brought their VWs seem to be from all over Mexico, and primarily wealthy. There were VW bugs, vans, things, golfs, and other tricked out VWs of unknown name. They even had a subaru brat style VW. If you haven't been to Mexico, VWs are really popular and common here, especially the bug, and many of the taxis in Mexico City are black and green VW bugs. The last VW bug was manufactured in July of 2003 and was shipped from Puebla to Germany.
