We arrived in Celestùn, located 2 hours west of Merida on the Gulf Coast, on Wednesday and got a hotel for $20 right on the beach at Hotel Maria del Carmen. We took a boat tour to see the Pink Flamingos and saw tons, hundreds and hundreds of them. The boats are supposed to keep their

distances so they don't startle them and make the fly. They lose alot of energy by flying and apparently they need to eat all day and rest before they fly, so the guides try not to disturb them too much.

Unfortunately, a helicopter flew sort of nearby and seemed to disturb them and a few of them took off in flight. Luckily we could capture a shot with the camera! The boat tour also went to a mangrove area, a 'petrified forest', and a ground-water spring, where we could see really large bubbles where the springs were coming into a crystal clear pond.
Today we walked the beach, which is littered with shells. Luke wondered how many shells there were on the beach and Emily thought it was close to infinity!

I see you really like beige with those pants you are wearing. You seem to wear a lot of beige on your trip. Have you thought about switching to khaki clothes?
I am wearing khaki clothes! It's about comfort and blending in with nature.
Khaki, beige? I thought khaki had a more green tone to it? Am I wrong here? Yes, nature is a good thing. But there can be too much of a good thing in all that beige.
