Yesterday we went for a morning bike ride to La Penita. We visited with the owners of a hammock shop for awhile, looked through their used book section and found what we are looking for. We are really into reading Sue Grafton's mystery series, you know, A is for Alibi, F is for Fugitive, etc.... For some reason when we are vacation, we love reading those books. We had tortas (sandwiches) for lunch at la loncheria and checked out a video store. It had a decent selection of new releases, but not brand new releases (we were looking for Nacho Libre). Last night we took my parents car and drove over to Los Ayala beach for an evening walk on the beach at sunset. This morning we went to San Pancho for Yoga class. It was full of downward facing dog moves and we worked up a good sweat. We are now trying to decide where to take our language class. It is likely we will go to Guadalajara, probably for a 1 week class next week.
Here are some interesting Mexico things we have noticed:
- The electrical systems are not grounded. We have been shocked several times.
- They clear the vegetation off the highways by hand with machetes, not with modern equipment.
- They put hotdogs on their pizzas.
- Most mexicans are terrible drivers and never follow the rules of the road. It is very dangerous to bike or walk along the highways, there is no shoulder at all and the vegetation is right up to the edge of the highway usually. There are alters along the roads everywhere where people have been killed.
- Most people do not have air conditioning (including us).
- There are so many types of juices and fruits, some are very exotic. Everywhere you can get limonada, horchata, jaimica (hibiscus), pina, cebata (oat), fresca (strawberry), and more...

That's awesome. Hot Dog pizza... with Nathan's? How do the torta's compare to taco king's monster ones?
No skype today, I left my power plug at home...
I haven't gotten to the syriana book yet, either. It's on my list but I tore through several other books this fall but it's next after another book you should look up:
The worst journey in the world
About Scott's south pole trip in the early 1900s. Super interesting.
I forgot, they also put catsup on their pizza.
