Tepic, Nayarit

We went to the capital of the State of Nayarit, Tepic, which is located north of Guayabitos in the mountains at an elevation of about 3200 ft. The weather was dry and cool, around 75F or so. Our main mission was to find a "man-purse" for Luke, so Emily doesn't have to carry everything around in her bag. However, we were unsuccessful in that mission, but Emily found a bag made by the Huichol Indians of the area that she really liked and had to buy. Until Luke finds his bag, he will utilize her Huichol bag temporarily (see photo). We are heading to Guadalajara on December 3 for our Spanish Class, so I am sure we will find it there. Guadalajara is known for its great markets and shopping.

In Tepic, we shopped, ate corn on the cob, but it is different corn on the cob, compared to the US, it is grilled until it is crispy and then they put lime, salt, chile, and mayo on it. Emily really likes it, but only with the lime and salt. We also had churros, the best churros we have had in Mexico so far. It was a nice excursion and good opportunities to see the Huichol people and a good place to go shopping.

Lots of western wear and shoe stores (zapaterias) in Tepic.

The city of Tepic was founded in the mid 1500 by the nephew of Cortes. Much of the architecture is colonial.

The Huichol Indians set up on the plaza and sell their amazing handicrafts.
