Snorkeling

Today we went snorkeling at the little island about a mile or two offshore called Isla Guano (that translates to bird crap island to those scoring at home). We went with Emily's mom, Linda, and two other friends, Jeanie and Dennis. We caught a boat taxi out to the island and packed water and snacks to spend 4 hours at the Island. We were the first tourists to arrive and a few moments of the beach to ourselves, then several other water taxis showed up, but it was great regardless of the few other tourists. The water is pretty clear along the beach, so we brought our snorkeling equipment and saw a variety of fish, including a few different puffer fish (see photo below) and an eel. The snorkeling isn't nearly as good as the Carribean side, but it was still a lot of fun. Here are some photos we took with our underwater digital camera, the Pentax Optio WPi, which is good to about 5 feet underwater.

After returning to the mainland we had a limonada at a beach palapa and enjoyed the view of Isla Guano from afar. For dinner we went out to taco night at the La Penita Trailer Park, a hotspot for retired Canadians and Americans (an RV park for campers and 5th wheel trailers, not to be confused with the tornado magnet variety). It was a good time hanging out and reminiscing with friends from the animal sterilization clinic. We were definitely the youngest people there by at least 20+ years...

Nice underwater shots, you two. I've been looking at photos of that island from the beach since last spring when Linda and Victor arrived and finally, we got ashore!

I love that chubby fish! Nice man purse, by the way. Way to rock it.

Hi Mary, just let us know when you will be here, and if the neuter clinic is at the same time I can send you contact info. It will probably be in La Penita though (2 miles north), but there is a collectivo or you can probably catch rides from people too.
